Open Russia prepares for an inaugural conference

A strong, just and prosperous Russia is the dream and the goal of every patriot. We are patriots and this is our dream and our goal. But the current Russian government looks after itself alone, depriving each and every one of us of strength, prosperity and justice.

In an inequitable state there is no justice, the economy collapses and there are no real elections so the government remains unchangingly in power.

This vicious circle can be broken only if people get off their comfortable sofas and start being active.

We Russians need a new, just and fair state, and we will create one.

There can be no just and fair state without free elections and a guarantee both that such elections can take place and that power cannot be monopolised in their aftermath.

In a just and fair state, amendments to the Constitution are needed to guarantee the principle of the separation of powers, and regular changes of government at all levels from the federal to the municipal.

In a just and fair state, the judiciary is independent and a citizen’s right to trial by jury is universal. The court must be a synonym for justice and fairness.

In a just and fair state, the reform of the law-enforcement agencies brings their activities into line with their name.

In a just and fair state, local issues are dealt with by a local government endowed with the necessary resources.

In a just and fair state, there is no room for a monopoly in politics, the economy or the mass media.

In a just and fair state, people have equal access to prosperity based on the truly enormous wealth and opportunities of our country.

In a just and fair state, civil society is based on a culture aware of its rights; the state derives its power from that culture and society adopts a responsible attitude to the election of its representatives.

A just and fair state is one built on the rule of law, where justice and the law are not artificially separated by a rapacious government desirous of ruling for ever.

How can we embark on the road to such a state today? Open Russia knows how and is already on that road.

In our own region, each of us is subjecting officials and the law-enforcement agencies to public scrutiny.

We are working for changes to the Constitution and the repeal of unjust laws.

We are offering legal assistance to citizens wishing to defend their civil rights.

We are working to develop a free and honest press.

We are defending the right of every Russian to benefit from the exploitation of our country’s natural resources.
