Khodorkovsky’s lawyer Vadim Klyuvgant commented:

“As you’d expect, in the sixteen-page judgment of the Supreme Court there is no answer to the burning question: why just two months? How did they decide that? Even the Supreme Court failed to explain the unexplainable. The judgment is full of the painfully familiar mantra that “all is carefully researched and properly assessed, the judgment is legitimate and reasonable, and the defence’s arguments are untenable”. On the rare occasion where there is some evidence to support the mantra of legitimacy and reason, it unfortunately was out of the context of the case. There’ll be more on this in our next appeal, which we have started to work on already.”
