Open Russia to award “Journalism as a Profession” prizes, fund investigative journalism and support media start-ups

On 7 December, Tallinn, Estonia, will host Open Russia’s inaugural Journalism as a Profession Awards

The prize, for high-quality journalism in and about Russia, is awarded in seven categories and is open to works published between 1 January and 1 November 2016. The winning entries will be selected by a jury, headed by journalist Maria Slonim.

All nominees at the prize-giving will be treated to master classes by renowned investigative reporters and Pulitzer Prize winners Michael Rezendes (editor of The Boston Globe, member of the Spotlight team that uncovered crimes in the Catholic Church) and — via video linkup — Dana Priest (writer and editor of The Washington Post, who exposed the CIA’s secret “black site” prisons).

The ceremony will also announce the recipients of Open Russia grants for investigative reporting about Russia.

The list of media start-ups chosen to receive support from Open Russia will also be made known.

The awards ceremony, to be hosted by music critic Artemy Troitsky, will take place at the House of the Brotherhood of Blackheads at: Pikk tanav 26, Tallinn.

The ceremony is by invitation only.
